What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing art used to promote good health and well-being.
Ki, which translates to “life force energy”, channels through the body of those who are practicing the healing. By laying hands on the body or simply touching the aura, the energy helps to balance the patient’s chakras (energy centers), balancing the person’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual state of being. In addition, Reiki has been known to reduce stress, enable the release of toxins and remove energy blocks.
Through the activation of the body’s natural ability to heal, people have been known to benefit on a variety of levels ranging from minor stress to major disease.
Reiki is not affiliated with any religious group, though many experience a strengthening in their spirituality through regular practice. It may foster spiritual growth and aid in emotional clearing. It is not to be used in replacement of medical care, though it may enhance treatment and help in creating a more speedy recovery.
What are the benefits of Reiki?

Reiki and Weight Loss
As you now know, Reiki is a form of energy work. Since its purpose is to balance the energy flow in and around the body, it may aid in weight loss. It can help stabilize your appetite and make you more aware of your body’s nutritional needs. It can help you make healthier, more mindful choices, and also remove unhealthy cravings. Reiki can help you feel better about yourself, which in turn helps you let go of weight that you have used to create a barrier, or “shield,” to protect yourself. To lose weight, you will still have to adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle, but Reiki can be a wonderful support for you while you make natural, healthy changes in your relationship with food and taking care of your body.
What can you expect during a Reiki session?
A Reiki session is an individualized experience that is relaxing, gentle, and safe for all. When you meet with your practitioner for the first time, you will be asked to read and acknowledge that you understand that your practitioner upholds the highest ethics, and also that your personal information remains confidential. The practitioner will begin by explaining Reiki to you and what she or he will be doing. Your safety and comfort are always the main consideration. If at any time during the session you have any concerns, you should let your practitioner know so that appropriate adjustments can be made.
You should wear loose comfortable clothing, limited jewelry, and shoes that are easily removable to your session. Treatments are done on a padded treatment table, fully clothed. Depending on your preference, the Reiki practitioner will place her hands above your body, or lightly touching you. This is never intrusive and you will begin to feel very relaxed as you allow the energy to flow to the areas where it is most needed by your body. It is at this stage that people usually begin to feel the stress lifting. Reiki always works by meeting the needs of your body, mind, and spirit at the time of the treatment.
If you are having problems in specific areas, your practitioner can concentrate more energy there. Reiki always goes where it is needed most. For many people, the effects of the treatment are immediate, while others may not notice anything for a few days. Many clients report that they feel calm, relaxed, and sometimes even tingly during their session. It is not uncommon for a client to present with pain and leave with none or very little. Reiki does not promise to cure any illness or condition or replace any medical treatments or therapies.
